It is one of the cheapest ways to buy more than 300 miles of EPA range in the US. It is aimed at families who want a roomy, easy-going SUV rather than a performance car. The 2026 model is a carryover with new appearance packages and a small price rise, largely through a higher destination charge. Chevrolet now lists the 2027 model from US$34,995 with a NACS charging port as standard. Design & Interior The dashboard is dominated by a 17.7-inch touchscreen, which Chevrolet says is the largest among EVs in its class. Its Google-based software handles navigation, voice control and apps, and reviewers find it straightforward. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered, which rules the car out for some buyers. Physical climate controls remain, a feature reviewers welcome. Edmunds found the seats too flat and firm, and the base audio system short on clarity. Small-item storage is also limited. New for 2026 are the Midnight and Tech Bronze appearance packages, with black or bronze exterior details and larger wheels. Driving This is not a quick EV. Edmunds recorded 7.8 seconds from 0 to 60 mph in a front-drive model, which is slow by electric-car standards. Handling is safe and predictable but not engaging, so keen drivers may be disappointed. The Equinox EV is at its best on the highway, where testers report a smooth ride and a quiet cabin. Strong, adjustable regenerative braking allows one-pedal driving around town. Super Cruise, GM's hands-free highway driving system, is available on higher trims. Range & Charging Range is the main selling point. The EPA rates front-drive versions at 319 miles and all-wheel-drive versions at 288–307 miles, depending on the onboard charger. In Edmunds' real-world test, the Equinox EV covered 356 miles, well beyond its official figure. Efficiency is only average, at 108 MPGe combined for the front-drive model. DC charging peaks at 150 kW. Independent testing by EVChargingStations.com measured 10–80% charges of about 38–44 minutes, depending on the charger. The battery's low operating voltage means it needs very high current to charge quickly, which some stations can't supply. Practicality Rear-seat space is generous for a compact SUV, and adults fit comfortably. Edmunds measures 26.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and Chevrolet quotes 57.2 cubic feet with them folded. A dual-height cargo floor adds flexibility, but there is no front trunk. Chevrolet includes eight years of OnStar Basics, and the battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. Safety NHTSA awarded the 2026 Equinox EV five stars overall, with five stars for frontal, side and rollover protection in both FWD and AWD form. Chevrolet lists more than 20 standard safety and driver-assistance features, including lane keep assist and HD Surround Vision. IIHS results for the electric Equinox were not available at the time of writing. It is not sold in Europe or Australia, so it has no Euro NCAP or ANCAP rating. Verdict The Equinox EV offers a rare mix of long range, a roomy cabin and a sensible price. It is a comfortable, quiet everyday SUV that suits drivers who value range over speed. Slow acceleration, average charging and the absence of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are the main drawbacks. Buyers who can wait may prefer the slightly cheaper 2027 model with its NACS port.
